Virtual Talanoa - Dr. Dean Roemmich

Dr. Dean Roemmich will provide a presentation of his work with Argo, an international program that collects oceaninc information.

Dean was a PCV in Tonga 1971-1973 and at USP in Fiji in 1974. After the Peace Corps, he received a PhD  in oceanography from MIT and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and then spent his career at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego.  Dean helped conceive, then led and developed international scientific support for the Argo Program, an array of nearly 4,000 floating sensors collecting information on the circulation, salinity, density and climate variability of the world’s oceans.

In this talanoa, he will discuss the Argo system and what has been learned from the data collected over the past two decades.
